Mrs. Raj Kumari Chadha was a source of strength, passion, and love to her family. To her husband, she was not only a loyal wife and loving companion, but someone who challenged him and helped him grow. To her four children, she was a fearless caretaker and matriarch. To her siblings, she was a dedicated sister who ensured their well-being. To her grandchildren, she was a compassionate and adoring grandmother. Above all else, however, Raj Kumari Chadha was a faithful devotee of Krishna. It is this faith which gave her the strength to persevere, to love, to give, and to live.
It was this this faith which gave her the strength to flee her homeland of Hazara (now in Pakistan) during the partition, with her husband and young child. It was this faith which allowed her to endure the hardships of settling in a new land, supporting her husband in his new endeavors, and caring for her growing family. And it was this faith which comforted her as her children traveled the world to receive education and raise families of their own.Although she did not receive a formal education, Mrs. Raj Kumari Chadha excelled at adapting to change and learning from her life experiences, even managing to teach herself to read and write English at 50. She became a dedicated and notable figure in Sanatan Dharam Temple in Sectors 28, 27, & 26 at Chandigarh. She was always willing to share knowledge of her faith with others. She is a testament to the belief that with devotion and strength of will, anything is possible. She not only engrained these values into her children and grandchildren, but also lived by them.
It is, therefore, fitting that her name now graces the hostels and auditorium of a college dedicated to education and success. Mrs. Raj Kumari Chadha’s life is a reminder to her family, and hopefully to the students at Sanatan Dharam College, that education is what happens when we take life's challenges and use them as an opportunity for self-improvement.
