Grant of Rs. 50 lakhs to new PG Innovative Course

Under the Innovative Programme 'Teaching and Research in Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas' launched by the UGC, the college has been sanctioned to run a new course Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Graphics and Animation. With this our College has become one of the few colleges in India to be endowed with the rare honour of being granted a fourth innovative programme in a row by the UGC, New Delhi. The college has received a grant of Rs. 50 lakhs for the course, which will start from the session 2010-11. This grant is now being well utilised to purchase equipments, books and journals, hire faculty and meet other working expenses to run this programme.

The course content for the courses is a perfect balance of theory and practical so as to make the students conversant with the theory as well as the application of the theory in actual situations. The course is especially designed to produce academically and technically qualified post graduates, who will be fully equipped and trained to handle the demands of the rising graphics and animation industry.

Grant of Rs. 1,18,30,000 under XI Plan

Over the years, our college has earned immense respectability as an institute offering the best of education in a highly motivating and pragmatic environment. Our sustained endeavours to scale greater heights of academic brilliance coupled with many major and minor research projects undertaken by the faculty, has earned us a permanent place among the most highly rated educational institutes of the country. Recognising our ceaseless efforts, the UGC has sanctioned many grants to various departments of the college. Under the XI Plan, the UGC has sanctioned Rs. 1.183 crore to the college. The grant has been allocated under different heads and for different professional courses and various departments being run by the college.

The money will be utilised to buy books and journals, strengthen the laboratories with new equipments, enhancement of other infrastructure and for conducting expeditions and educational tours for the students. The money will also be utilised for establishment and further strengthening of the UGC-Network Resource Centre and other developmental works.

Grant of Rs. 78 lakhs to Science Departments

The UGC has granted Rs. 78 lakhs to the science departments of the college for the enhancement of their infrastructure and research facilities. The money has been given under the UGC scheme of promotion of Basic Scientific Research. These funds are now being utilized to further consolidate the infrastructure and research facilities in the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Bioinformatics, Psychology, Information Technology, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Statistics.

This honour has been bestowed upon the science departments of only those colleges which are endowed with the 'Potential for Excellence' status as conferred by the UGC, New Delhi. Of the grants received, the departments of the colleges can also utilize up to five percent for offering projects to students during the course period. This helps promote a culture of research among students. As part of this scheme, the selected students are even provided a stipend and guided by the faculty at each step.

Grant of Rs. 72 Lakhs for strengthening of Life Sciences  

Under the Star College Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the college has been bestowed with the status of “Star College in Life Sciences” and a grant of Rs. 72 lakhs has been sanctioned for further strengthening of life sciences and biotechnology education and training at the undergraduate level in the college. These funds allocated to the departments of Bioinformatics, Zoology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Microbiology of the college would help to substantially increase the proportion of ‘hands on’ experimental work by students, enhanced access of undergraduate students to bioinformatics infrastructure, life sciences related journals, participation in summer schools and students’ research projects.

This grant has been provided initially for a period of two years, and DBT would be continuing with this financial support for another three years upon evaluation of this programme.

Grant of Rs. 10 lakhs for Career Oriented Programmes

Recognising the growing need of industry and market oriented professional programmes, the college offers the widest array of vocational and career oriented subject choices to the students. Besides the elective subjects, the college also runs 25 parallel career oriented ‘Add on’ courses. With this, the college has become the only college in the region to acquire the distinction of offering the highest number of such parallel courses. The UGC too has recognised this accomplishment and the constant endeavours of the college to offer courses that suit market requirements, and has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 10 lakhs for the further strengthening of these Career Oriented Programmes.
